Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

After a string of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key was developed in collaboration with a non-disclosed artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project which was announced by Lamborghini.

The latest project, dubbed the Space Key, is a work of art created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is obtained by scanning the use of a QR code. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off over the next few weeks.

The Space Key is made from a carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of research project. The carbon fiber was transformed into an original artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical element is inscribed with an NFT serial number that is linked to the corresponding digital artwork using a QR code that is located on the back.

NFTs for those who aren't familiar are unique identifiers that are stored on an open ledger on the blockchain and connected to digital assets such as a picture video, song, or other record. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity and the trackability of their tokens through the internet.

Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art by collaborating with NFT PRO - an white label NFT solution for business. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal details about the exciting project, including the name of the unidentified artist as well as a timeline for the auction.

The physical aspect of the Space Key

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that allows you to access an exclusive digital work by an unknown artist. It was created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the 'collector's piece' is limited to just five units and will soon be auctioned off.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of carbon-fired composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth the space key was engraved with a QR code that links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of the five images was taken by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera fitted with lenses to capture the individual images, which were later put together into the final image. The result is an image that is out of this world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic look of a car rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and time of the event hasn't been set yet.

The auction

The actual sample was cut into five unique pieces that link to exclusive digital art work created exclusively by an artist who has not yet been announced through the QR code.

The auctions, which will occur between February 1 and February 4, will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes, the same time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter lunar orbit. The five NFTs are available for bidding by signing up online. Each NFT will be auctioned off separately and the winner will receive an original digital art work by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space key lamborghini aventador experienced during its space voyage.
