It does a good job in cleaning carpeted floors however, it's not as effective as the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to bare floor performance. The i7 is also more robust and feels more durable and sturdy, has less maintenance requirements, is able to charge lower monthly costs, and charges faster, while offering similar battery performance, and offers much more advanced automation features such as no-go zones and the ability to pick certain rooms to be cleaned.

4. iRobot J7+

This robot vac/mop combination is a rare find, because it can do both tasks very well. IRobot's Combo j7+ has all the features of its j7 counterpart including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping but with additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The j7+ uses the latest acoustic sensor to determine the type of floor and allows it to vacuum or mop the room during its initial pass. It also utilizes this information to prioritize cleaning rooms with carpet and rugs over those with hard floors.

The J7+ is quieter than the majority of robotic vacuums when it's in use and is even quieter when it's mopping. The maximum reading of 64 decibels on our decibel meter is comparable to normal office chatter.

It is easy to set up a cleaning schedule and change the way that dust is cleaned when the canister is full. The j7+ is also able to be controlled with voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app lets you create and view maps within your home.

In our tests, we found that the j7+ performed well on both hard and carpeted flooring, removing the majority of the dirt we tossed at it. It has a hard time dealing with pet hair, large particles and sand. But it can clean them with more effort. It has good navigational abilities and two cliff sensors that stop it from falling down stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did notice some minor issues with the j7+. These include that it can get caught on rugs and cords and that it doesn't always switch off its mopping when done vacuuming. Overall, this is an excellent model that checks all the right boxes.

The j7+ by iRobot is one of the best self-emptying systems we've tested. It spits out its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust container into the base station, where it automatically emptys itself for you. This will reduce the amount of trash you have to get rid of. It is only necessary to change the dust disposal bag at the dock once every 60 days, based on how often you use the j7+.
