I also enjoyed the way he was able to defeat the villain without threatening the villain or chasing him. Instead, he employed insinuation.

Another thing I really enjoyed about this book was the way Heyer subtly pointed out limitations of women's lives in this period. Leonie is not a fan of trading in her breeches and riding side-saddle for layers of skirts, petticoats, and dresses. She also refuses to ride on the side saddle and shoots villains (despite it being a hazardous job). Avon is initially a little uncomfortable with her rebellious behaviour but he soon learns to love her.

I did find it a bit difficult to determine who was who in the beginning, because Heyer refers to the Duke using a variety of different names in the initial pages. Once you have it sorted out, it becomes much easier to read. This book was fantastic and I highly recommend it. Whether you're a fan of Georgette Heyer or just enjoy a good romance I can assure you that you will not be disappointed!

Avon's Relationship with Davenant

He does not try to make her jealous of his relationship with Leonie however, he gently warns her that she should be more cautious with her own relationships in the future.
